“Brown and furry caterpillar in a hurry take your walk to the shady leaf or stalk, or what not, which may be the chosen spot. No toad spy you, hovering bird of prey pass by you; spin and die, to live again a butterfly.” – Christina Rossetti

Show & Tell

Last Thursday of the Month
Show & tell will now be held on the last Thursday of every month. We would like your children to bring something that found in nature or that is science related. Since we will only be doing this once a month, we hope it will encourage interesting conversations around the selection of the show and tell item and it will be more educational for your children. Please mark the following upcoming show & tell dates on your calendar: Thursdays July 25; August 29 and September 26.

Gardening

The children are developing gardening skills, in addition to having fun, building self-confidence, digging in the soil and getting dirty while nurturing the plants. This also builds their love for nature and instills a sense of responsibility.

Strawberries, tomatoes, zucchinis and pumpkins are all thriving under the care of the students. The children are learning to use their senses, smelling all of the herbs, oregano, sage, mint, chives and thyme. We look forward to harvest time at the end of the summer where the children can see all the fruits and vegetables they have grown!

Science

We have designated a corner of the yard to explore insects or as the children call it, “the bug corner”. The students can discover and learn about the types of environments that insects live in. We are taking this opportunity to discuss the biomes and type of habitats animals and plants live in. This continues to build their curiosity and love for nature.

Arts & Crafts

For the month of July, the students will be getting creative, exploring paint, glue, wood and paper. Keep an eye out for a variety of art projects that the children will be brining home this month.

Back to School

Monday, August 5
Regular classroom routine will begin on Monday, August 5. The subjects the children will be exploring are: practical life, language arts, sensory, mathematics, geography and science. We look forward to another exciting year within the multi-age classroom and seeing the older children mentoring the younger ones, each learning at their own pace, sharing their strengths and talents.

Parents Meeting

Thursday, August 15, 6:30 pm
The annual back to school parents meeting will be held at on Thursday, August 15th at 6:30PM. We will review important information about the school year and answer any questions from parents. This is a good opportunity to meet other AHMS parents and mingle. Please let us know if you are not able to make it.

A Special Thank You from the Teachers!
