About Us

Auburn’s House is more than a school; it is the continuation of a 40-year family commitment to the children of the Monterey Peninsula. Our story began with Auburn Velasquez, who dedicated her life to the Montessori philosophy, believing that every child deserves a “home away from home” where their spirit can truly blossom.

From our early days at the Monterey County Fairgrounds to the boutique micro-school we are today, the Velasquez family has remained the heartbeat of this community. Today, we carry forward the vision my mother established: a sanctuary of patience, nature-focused discovery, and the deep, individualized care that only a family-run environment can provide.

At the heart of Auburn’s House is a deep-rooted commitment to authentic Montessori practice. Our founding director earned her International Montessori Diploma directly under the guidance of the Montessori family, receiving her certification signed by Mario Montessori himself. This rare, historical connection ensures that the curriculum we offer today remains true to the original, scientific vision of childhood development established over four decades ago.
