Decision-Making

Start fostering their decision-making skills now so they are able to make smart (and safe) decisions later, especially in their teen and early adult years. Involve your child in dialog about why we do the things we do, instead of telling him what to do. For example, instead of just saying, “pick up those toys,” ask your child why is a good idea to pick up our things. Give the child the opportunity to arrive at the “right” conclusion on his own which teaches him how to think, not what to think.

Self-confidence

Montessori education is based upon building independence and confidence. These go hand in hand, because as a child builds independence and internalizes this, the result is confidence. Self-confidence is an essential ingredient in the recipe for a rewarding life. The Montessori Method is especially mindful of your child’s developing self-esteem and its ultimate connection to academic, social, and emotional abilities. Here are five ways to help your children find their own self-confidence: Embrace Differences; Encourage Decision-Making; Demonstrate Kindness; Acknowledge Emotions and Stay Strong.

“Child” Centered

“Child-centered” in the Montessori prepared environment means, the Montessori environment is a child centered community designed to facilitate maximum independent learning and exploration. The environment is prepared for the child so that he or she can experience the blend of freedom and discipline through the activities. There is no teacher to correct the child, but the activities them self help them explore learning independently.
