Spring Cleaning

A basic premise behind Maria Montessori’s philosophy of early childhood education was that every child is eager for work, even when the work seems like chores to the adult. Through the activities of Practical Life, children not only perform a task; they are also forming foundations on which to organize skills and intelligence. In washing and scrubbing exercises, the children develop concentration, become aware of order and sequencing, gain control over their movements, become more independent, and learn to care for their surroundings.

“Child” Centered

“Child-centered” in the Montessori prepared environment means, the Montessori environment is a child centered community designed to facilitate maximum independent learning and exploration. The environment is prepared for the child so that he or she can experience the blend of freedom and discipline through the activities. There is no teacher to correct the child, but the activities them self help them explore learning independently.

Earth Day Celebration on April 20th

Montessorians are well versed when it comes to protecting the Earth and its environment. Dr. Montessori believed that “The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth.” She also stated that “There is no description, no image in any book that is capable of replacing the sight of real trees, and all of the life to be found around them in a real forest.”

Annual Spring Potluck-Children’s Program

Saturday, June 2nd, 3pm – 5pm
On Saturday June 2nd from 3:00 to 5:00, the children at Auburn’s House Montessori will be learning all about the “Theater”. They will be preforming a small play, consisting of songs, dance and role playing. We will gather after the show for a community potluck.

“Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water; and, when the grass of the meadows is damp with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet; let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath it’s shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning as it wakes every living creature that divides its day between waking and sleeping.”
