Calendar Reminders

March 8: Reminder: Daylight Saving Time Starts. Sunrise and sunset will be about 1 hour later than the day before. There will be more light in the evening.

Valentine’s Day All Month

This year we will be highlighting Valentine’s Day for the entire month of February and have some special activities planned, therefore we are asking parents to not send the children to school with Valentine’s for the other students on Valentine’s Day this year.

Valentine’s Day Parent Mingling

A Special Day to Express Affection and Friendship
Friday, February 14, 8:00 – 9:00 am
Parents who are dropping off their children on Valentine’s Day are invited to join each other in the Multi-Purpose room for some coffee, treats, and pastries. This event is to encourage social engagement for the parents of Auburn’s House. The event will be held from 8-9 am and Mrs. Auburn will be the main host. We hope to see you there, parents!

Practical Life

February & March
For the month of February and March we will be working with your child on everyday routines and practices of life. Maria Montessori called these practical life activities: Preparing food, dressing oneself, cleaning, habitual courtesies, and more. We have found over the years that these tasks are exciting and empowering for the child to master. Practical life in Montessori helps develop motor control and coordination, as well as independence, concentration, and a sense of responsibility.

Snack Basket

Part of the Practical life curriculum is our annual tradition of offering Auburn’s House Snack Basket. The “Snack Basket” is a decorated basket in which a child brings snacks for their friends and then hosts the event using the basket. Each child over the age of two and a half will be learning how to set a table for ten of their friends with tablecloths, plates, napkins, and centerpieces. We are asking parents for your support in providing healthy snacks for 10 children so that every child gets a snack for the month. Reminder, AHMS is a nut free school.

For the 2-3 year old children, flowers will be shared with friends instead of a snack basket.

Flower Basket

Since Auburn’s House Montessori continues to grow and welcome more children, the 2-3 year olds will be bringing home a basket called the “Flower Basket”. A child will be taking this basket home to bring “fresh flowers” provided by the parents, to school, in which
they will be responsible for putting flowers in vases for the tables at the snack basket even and tables around the school.

Starting February 5th, look for a Sign-Up Sheet for both the Snack Basket and Flower Basket. Mrs Auburn will be organizing the flower basket and will have a signup sheet with your child’s name on it.
