Our Story

Auburn’s House Montessori School has provided quality education on the Monterey Peninsula since 1986. The Velasquez’s are a respected family in the community that has always strived to create an environment that promotes the love of learning.

Auburn Velasquez receives a  diploma from an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) training course held at the Montessori Institute of Los Angeles, for the primary level education. The beginning of her career was at Kinderhaus.

Auburn’s family opened a Montessori school for 24 children, on the Monterey County Fair grounds.

Auburn opened up Light House Montessori her first in-home school.

Auburn decided to change the name to Auburn’s House Montessori School. She really wanted children to feel at home.

About Us

AUBURN VELASQUEZDirector / Teacher / Owner
Auburn Velasquez was born and raised in Monterey. She began her studies at an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) training center held at the Montessori Institute of Los Angeles. She began her career opening a good size Montessori school at the Monterey Fair Grounds called Albert Monterey Montessori School. Auburn also received her Bachelors degree in Sociology from the University of Santa Cruz and worked in the field of social services as a social worker/ counselor. Heading in the direction of social services she begin dedicated her time and efforts to implementing and building a recovery outreach program for addicted women and their children. After successfully contributing to this cause she opened Auburn’s House Montessori School with her Husband devoting her life’s work toward inspiring and helping children.
JOE VELASQUEZAdministrator/ Social Liaison/ Owner
Joe Velasquez was born and raised in the Monterey Peninsula. Joe’s talents and experience gives much contribution to his role as Administrator and Social Liaison for Auburn’s House Montessori School. Joe’s passion with the community and hard work is the support and backbone of success at Auburn’s House Montessori School. A business Owner and Creative Superhero, Joe has always promoted live music events in the community and has contributed  to saving the art of live music. Joe also worked for The City of Seaside in Public Works department for 15 years.
